Moving and Breathing

with Maria Furlano, DMQ (China), MTOM, L.Ac.

{Video transcript}

Hi everybody. I wanted to expand a little about what I was talking about on my podcast about distracting your mind when you’re feeling stress and you need to bring yourself back into focus.

I had mentioned that when you walk to focus on your feet.

Right now if you’re able to take a walk and do some exercise outside in the sun. The sun is incredibly fueling and healthy and it’s a great place to be.

But I wanted to also talk a little about focusing on your breathing while you walk.

You can do this at whatever pace is good for you.

You don’t ever want to run out of breath.

When you’re walking and breathing, you want to breathe into your belly and fill your belly, then allow the breath to move into your lungs. Then exhale fully.

This is very different than high chest breathing – where you breathe high and you can’t really get your breath inhaling fully or exhaling fully.

So belly breathing when you’re moving and exercises when you’re moving is just as essential as when you’re doing Qigong, meditation or yoga.

When you’re moving, you want to do this breathing at whatever pace is good for you. You might take shorter breaths or longer breaths. You may need to build up to breathing more fully. You will most likely will need to get comfortable with it and build up to it, if this is new for you.

But what’s wonderful about doing this breathing is it gives you something to focus on and gets you out of your head and into your body. You’re doing something healthy for yourself, revitalizing your cells with oxygen and letting go of everything that doesn’t serve you.

And if you can’t go outside, try this at home on a treadmill, elliptical, or bike. Or even walking in place. Make it work for you.

Enjoy!

Keep yourself moving, keep yourself healthy, and keep yourself smiling because it elevates the energy in your body!

And I will see you soon…

Love to you all!
